Medical Mission Accomplishment Report

The Silver and Gold Foundation for Family and Life, Inc. (SGFFLI) facilitated a medical mission through the courtesy of the Philippine Medical Society of Northern Carolina (PMSNC) from January 20 to 27, 2006. Hotel accommodation and plane tickets were shouldered by the PMSNC doctor and nurse volunteers. Transportation going back and forth for the venue and hotels was covered by SGFFLI, same with the meals including 300 local volunteers.

At least 192 doctors and nurses gave their free services to the less fortunate Capiceños. The record shows that for five days they were able to serve 8,920 patients in the province. Major and minor surgeries were performed and medicines were distributed free among the indigents; 1,000 eyeglasses were also given away. Free wheelchairs, commodes, crutches and walking chairs were distributed; and free dental check up and teeth extraction were also done. Toys and clothes were given away to the child patients.

The surgeons were able to perform 423 surgeries; 233 major, 190 minor; the venue was the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital for the major surgeries and, for minor surgeries, it was the City Health Office. They also served 6,637 patients in Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center , through Family Practice, Internal, Medicine, Pediatrics, GNY, Psychiatry/GP, and Pre-Op Consultations. Their dental clinic served 790, more or less patients, and Optometry, 1,070 patients. (Please see attachment 1). Cataract operations were done in Bailan District Hospital .

The Silver and Gold Foundation for Family and Life, Inc. is very grateful for the support and financial aid extended by Senator Mar Roxas II, the provincial and city governments, Dr. Joe Martinez, PREMS and others in the public and private sectors during the missions. The barangay captains also extended their support by way of giving native foods like “bicho-bicho,” “wet-wet,” etc. for the merienda of the doctors, nurses and local volunteers. Despite all of these achievements, the medical mission did not go without its critics. There were 10 or 0.10 percent, incidents or feedbacks on record but fortunately no untowardly gross effects were reported or any formal complaints received by SGFLLI and PMSNC. Overall, the medical mission was a resounding success! And, its greatest accomplishment actually is the coming together of so many helpful hands all over the globe, all in order to make a difference among the really deserving citizens of Capiz and Roxas City .
